Cooking Crab in a Drift Boat

Ron Wakita of Reliable Guide and Charters had a plan: Let’s go catch some Dungeness Crab in the Douglas Channel, cook them on the drift boat while we fish for Chinook (King)Salmon in the Kitimat River. GREAT plan, I said. I cut the video after the crab feast. We did hook into two Chinook but lost them both. We did land a Pink.

An old broken and worn out radio control speed boat is sunk in the lake instead of being put out for the trash man. An onboard camera was put on to record the sinking.It was attached with velcro and tethered with a fishing line in order to recover the camera. A good pull ripped the velcro apart once the boat had sunk.
I used my popsicle stick rc tugboat to pull it out to the site where it would be sunk. Please see my other videos for a video of that boat with an onboard camera. Once at the site, the duct tape that covered the holes that were drilled in the hull was pulled off and it began to sink. Only the tug made it back to shore.

I have studied boat design and owned many boats
through my 67 years, often one or two boats bought
and sold annually. Yours is the most original that I ever
have seen. The setup and instant pop-out are
amazing.
As a fisherman who loves to squeeze into smaller less
available lakes, your boat looks neat. However, it
probably is not practical for fishing. But I can dream.
Do you sell plans or the complete boat? Might be fun
to have one.

My two sons and I have stood up within one of our over
40 or so prototypes and have rocked it violently from
side to side without capsizing the craft. That version
has an interior cabin space of 26 inches by 10 feet.
My wife and I have gone out on a lake many times in
one craft with a battery, trolling motor, fishing poles and
an ice chest. We have also clamped two boats
together with my wife and daughter in one craft, and
myself and the motor and battery and other items
being within the second and attached craft.
There are now suppliers of corrugated plastic who
carry the material in 5 foot by 14 foot lengths, and so
should produce a 38 inch wide by 12 foot craft.
Serious dedicated fishing ? – Maybe not . . . but for
spur of moment fishing . . . oh yeah, its good.
Eventually within the major box type stores, you may see pallets of our folded no-parts water crafts with their attached means of propulsion being the folding oars. We are open to capital investment to fund the proper course.

Sri Lanka Navy ceremonially launched its 100th Arrow speed boat constructed in its own boat building facility Welisara yesterday (September 11). Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa was the chief to the occasion.
In the brief ceremony held at the base, Secretary of Defence, Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, declared the 100th small boat constructed and commanded Navy personnel for accomplishing such a Herculean task with in 2 years. Also, he honored the key Navy personnel behind the project with commendation certificates.

Speaking at the occasion, Defense Secretary said that he only witnessed the performance of indigenously built small speed boats in Mannar a year ago, but realized the excellent service that they have been doing for the country.
He observed that Navy’s small speed boat project has not only saved a vast amount of public funds spent on the war on terror but also enabled the navy personnel to externalize their tacit knowledge they have gained through 20 years of counter terror warfare. He said that the project has been able to develop a great weapon as well as a strategy that suit best for the Sri Lankan context.20 years ago, we could not come this far towards victory in our war against terror. Our present victories are made possible by the victories achieved by the committed people like those who are engaged in this project”, he said.
Speaking further he said, Navy has almost eliminated the threat of Sea Tigers by destroying 10 arms carrying ships at high seas. He said , for the first time in the history, the Navy now has the capability of destroying LTTE ships long before they reach Sri Lankan shores.
” We all must highly appreciate and honor the great role the navy has been playing in our effort to eliminate terrorism from the country”, he added.
Speaking at the occasion, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda said that the day marked a special achievement of the Navy as the “Arrow” boat project could built its 100th boat.
” This would give the sailors more courage and to carry on this innovative project further” he added.
Defence Secretary also toured in the Navy Headquarters, Colombo Harbor and Navy camp Welisara to inspect harbor defence arrangements and other naval projects during the day.
