Students in the Wood Composite Boat Building Program learn to use wood in conjunction with various composite materials such as cores and fi berglass to construct a modern boat. Cold molding and vacuum bagging are the primary building methods used for the hull and deck. The project boat is complex with an interior, basic electrical systems and engine. Students learn lofting, fairing, tooling construction and joinery.

The Landing School Wooden Boat Building Program

The Wooden Boat Building Program instructs students in the construction of both traditional and modern boats using wood as the principal material. In the fi rst semester, students construct small, traditional Lapstrake craft using various woods and epoxies fi nished with bronze fasteners and hardware. In the second semester, the building method shifts to Carvel planking on steam-bent ribs to build a second boat. Students learn lofting, fairing, planking, spar construction and fi nishing for both vessels.
