Boat Project Help Please?
We need a boat that can float and go fast. The max size is 22cm x 8cm
What propulsion method is required … sail or power?
What materials are allowed … paper, wood, plastic, … ?
How far does it have to travel?
With the little information that you supplied, the only thing I can suggest is this. When the entire hull is in the water, there is much resistance to motion because of the submerged portion of the hull trying to push aside the water. So if you decrease the amount of the hull that is submerged, you will have less resistance, and able to travel faster.
If I were you, I would investigate catamaran designs since they rely on smaller submerged hulls to achieve faster speeds.
Now while it is true that there are speed boats that have normal hulls where a large portion is under the water. But these require multiple powerfull engines to push them against the resistance of the water. With a catamaran design, you can use a single and much lighter engine, or sail for propulsion.
