i am doing a science project and i need an alumunum boat and i need like steps to build it. ANY!?

I just spent 30 minutes on my answer and Yahoo kicked it. ANYWAY I’ll recreate as much of my original thought as I can.

Good Q BTW, and some validity in others answers.

Think RULES and that it has to FLOAT. Certainly FOIL can work, and you could name it the USS Reynolds,,,smiles.

BTW I offer this. You can share with your teacher that CONCRETE boats float, and as a Hull substance is valid.

Ok long story short. Not knowing the guidelines you have other than substance, think of this as a REAL boat, and in that context the HULL, especially dependant on the water line, supports the rest of the entire weight and BALANCES IT. I’ll explain BALLAST in a moment.

I suspect that aesthetics aren’t a critical issue. Go to your local market and pick up a few aluminum Meat Loaf baking pans. Yeah I know they aren’t gonna look like the QE 2, but indulge me.

In the exact center or as close as you can get to it, scribe a line, a crease, hopefully to extend the bottome of the hull lower than where the botton meets the side walls. Oh whlie you’re at the market, pick up a box/package of modeling clay. Color is your choice,,,smiles. INTO that crease, after rolling a clay "worm" apply the worm to the crease, and put the hull into a sink or bath tub to gauge the "balance."

If in fact you need a deck and/or cabin, mast, etc, DO NOT secure them permanently yet. Remember "balance" You probably could add a KEEL, but don’t stress that yet. The idea however IN balance is to give your boat an "EVEN KEEL" effect so that whatever you add will not tip it or sink it. The structure of a plain Meat Loaf pan will float anyway. The "ballast/Worm, helps keep your total weight "centered."

I’d be curious to know your progress and results if you don’t mind… as well as your "Grade" :)

My and my friend built a boat out of wood for a local sika boat racing event and we need some design ideas. Some previous designs we did were camoflouge, polka dot, and a watermelon boat. Everything that goes on the boat has to be painted on. Please help me :-)

how about a Banana Split and the passengers are Nuts

Pretty much the only rule is that we can’t buy something that was meant to be a boat. We were supposed to use everyday objects to make the body of the boat. What’s something that’s heavy enough to not sink and light enough to be relatively easy to control?

we had this same project at my high school. Almost every boat was made from 2 liter soda bottles, chicken wire, and 2 by 4’s. styrofoam works too. good luck!

any boat building tips?

i am building a 8 ft jon boat any tips its wooden and im kinda on a low budget ;)

one tip, make sure you have enough life jackets on board when you take it out. Another is that since you’re on a budget I’m guessing your not going to seal the wood with epoxy, so make sure you get a GOOD Marine finish/paint for the boat. This is one spot you don’t want to be conservative with. I’m also guessing you’re not going to be steaming and bending the wood very much, so try to keep your curves to an absolute minimum. Seal every joint well during the construction, and put some sealer at every fastner, so if you’re putting a screw in, put a drop of whatever sealant you’re using there before you start the screw, this way you take the sealant into the hole with the screw. Make sure to put a center board down the middle of the keel, this will help the boat track straight, and also if you’re running it onto the beach, it will take the wear instead of the bottom of the boat, a piece of 2×2 trimmed up should work well.

Good luck with it

I don’t know what kind of commercial boat I want to build. I just need to know the general supplies?

Boatyard
Molds if it is fiberglass
Workers
Machine shop
Tools
Money
Permits from city/town/state
Boat plans
More money
dedication to work 7 days a week 12-15hours a day
Office staff
Part suppliers
Steel/aluminum suppliers
More money
A lot of planning
Good Luck

I have a science project where I have to build a mini boat out of pop bottles and styrofoam and stuff, so could you help me figure out a way to build a propeller or something that can help it move quicker? The materials I have are everyday items and other things like would, wire, and all that stuff. But please help me figure out how to build this. :) Thanks

its kind of cheating but try this.
they are wicked and can get up to a quick speed.

Does anybody know if a ferry/boat/cruise exists to travel from Marseille (or close by in the south of France) to Barcelona?? trying to plan a trip to europe and if it exists i think that’d be a really cool n fun experience but…. can’t find one. help?

European ferries are not a "really cool n fun" experience. They are very slow, there is little or nothing to do while onboard, the Mediterranean often gets choppy, and you usually can’t see anything from the ship. All of that makes the ferries a very unpleasant way to get around – and they are not that cheap. If you go "deck class", you don’t get a room, and have nowhere to lie down. And getting a cabin on a ferry can be as expensive as a flight. Personally I only take a ferry when there is no alternative, like going between Greek islands.

You can find short cruises that stop in both the South of France and Barcelona. Marseilles is not a common cruise destination – most of them use Nice or Monaco for a stop in France.

It’s just going to be something small, not for anybody to fit in, just a model boat. Please give me tips.
It’s going to be diesel fueled, and yes it will ride in water.

If I remember correctly, balsa wood is the lighter wood? If so, it,s very hard to get this type of wood to bend. I would recommend going with the heavier wood. You can bend easily by placing in water for a few minutes and sculpting. Unless you are going to cover the balsa wood up after framing? If so then you could cut into smaller pieces for the curve.

I have to build a small boat It must be between 30cm and 40cm and must be at least 8 cm tall. Just asking for some general Help and ideas maybe some good sites for checking that kinda stuff out.

It seems very challenging to build even a small boat like your choice but then with the right plans for boat building, building it will be very much achievable. A good book on boat building might really help.
