I Need to build a boat that will support three men and 600 pounds. It will be propelled by paddle. Any tips on boat building and working with play-dough on a large scale would also be appreciated!

LOL I hope you are kidding …

That would be an intense design challenge though. A boat floats, because the fluid in which it is floating offsets the downward pull of gravity and hence pushes it up. You’d have to make a scale model and go from there, playdough is fairly dense AND expensive, plus it would require exensive reenforcing and a way to bond it for long term use..

I can only use 25 popsicle sticks, one foot of string, and one piece of paper. What’s a good design?

Hi, maybe a flat bottomed skiff?

I have very little cash but lots of enthusiasm, and want to get on the water soon
by the way, Im in the UK, I dont fancy sailing from canada in a cheap boat!!

Try a city marina the may be able to help or let you help them and gain some experience.

How much is passenger tickets and can I also place an order for rent car in europe?

Well, I am not too versed as to what to do about a rental car, but as far as ships are concerned, I believe the only vessel taking passengers to Europe and back is Cunard Lines Queen Mary 2. The cost for the cheapest transatlantic room is a couple hundred dollars, I think (you’d have to check) but I would recommend it. I have never been on her, but I did a report (a pretty extensive one) on her for my Naval Architecture I class last year, and it is quite the ship.

Also, the Queen Victoria may do trans Atlantic, but again, you’d have to check with Cunard’s website

www.cunard.com

While I was checking to make sure that was the correct address, I glanced at prices for a transatlantic crossing. It’s about $995 US for the cheapest room I think.

Anyway, hope this helps

I have a new process for boat building (using any materiaI) that I know I can patent, but can I specifically claim the use of cotton fabric to exclude others from using it to build boats with any method thay want to use?
Basically, can I patent the use of a specific material in building a product?

Yes – as long as you meet the requirements for patentability:

1. New
2. Useful
3. Non-obvious
4. Patnetable subject matter

as well as any statutory bars – like the ‘on sale’ bar

The only problems you may have are NEW and NON-OBVIOUS – do a literature search, and search patents on USPTO.GOV to see if someone came up with your idea already.

GOOD LUCK!

This video and the following SemperFIsh N Dive Boat Project videos are a documentation of all the hard work, blood, sweat, and tears that I, along with my wife Selena, Grandpa Cliff, Uncle Gary, Dad (Big Duane), Steve Patton, Todd Lacey, and Mike Cooper (who is a cheat, liar, and thief) , have put into this boat to restore it and bring it new life, breathing saltwater on her again. This project started in June 2007 and is taking about a year and a half to complete. It will be launced out of MacDill Air Force Base Marina and be ported there while we look for a house near Clearwater, hopefully witha convienent launch site nearby (like in the backyard). Please watch the videos in order as I post them to feel the true journey from start to finish. Alot of weekends have been sacrificed to make this dream a reality, and the best part is it is paid for. Thanks Grandpa for keeping this old boat in such great shape. Part One of the SemperFIsh N Dive chronicles shows the rebuilding of the bilge sides, reinforcement of the flooring and bracing if the bilge area, painting the bilge, the buffing and waxing of the hull, and the rebuilding of the hatches. There are many more details that went on while these tasks were taking place. Enjoy good music and the slide show. Duane
